Asset Energy

Seablue-1

Asset Energy is planning to undertake exploration drilling for natural gas and greenhouse gas storage at the Seablue-1 well site, located in petroleum exploration permit 11 (PEP-11), approximately 30 km south-east of Newcastle in Commonwealth waters, in a water depth of 125 m.

Offshore drilling is regulated under the Offshore Petroleum Greenhouse Gas Storage (Environment) Regulations 2009 (the Environment Regulations) which requires a risk-based environmental impact assessment to be conducted and assessed by the regulator, the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA), prior to undertaking drilling.

During drilling, the rig will be located approximately 26 km offshore, and is not visible from the shoreline. Once drilling is complete, the mobile operated drilling unit (MODU) will be demobilised from the wellsite, and there will be no remaining infrastructure on the seabed or surface.

A semi-submersible mobile operated drilling unit (MODU) will be anchored to maintain position during the drilling period.
